I feel as if I'm learning to fly all over again! I didn't realise flying a glider would be so much fun - and so very different.
Perhaps I should explain. I already am a qualified pilot, with a private pilot's licence for single engine aeroplanes, i.e. a PPL(A). I have IMC and night ratings too, all from Marshall's at Cambridge.
Gliding has been a revelation - the distances covered (hundreds of miles!), the flying time (hours!) and how differently the gliders soar and fly to conventional aeroplanes. I would strongly recommend any existing PPL pilot to give this a go. And if you're starting out and considering flying lessons from scratch, you would do well to consider gliding lessons first - much cheaper and a great starting point for all other types of flying afterwards.
Due to the proximity to Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, I chose to go to the Cambridge Gliding Centre. I can recommend it.
